Topic:  Being Creative...Legally!

Many nonprofit organizations have creative or intellectual property and, though they may not think of their work this way, it is an essential part of their organization's brand and fundraising. While some creative rights-specific laws exist, addressing disputes usually involves applying multiple areas of law to address complex relationships among commissioners or creators/owners, the rights of multiple parties including the buyer or public, and particular transactions unique to intellectual property. In this practical session, you will learn intellectual property law and gain a better understanding of the creative rights issues impacting non-profit organizations, while also securing the steps an organization can take to protect their creative property.

Speaker:

Douglas Sorocco is a lawyer and owner of the Oklahoma City-based creative rights law firm Dunlap Codding and helps creators, makers, artists & innovators protect and defend their art, innovations, and ideas. He loves ideas- the more outlandish and audacious, the better-and believes that supporting the development of new ideas from all corners of our soicety is the recipe for community advancement. Doug is a member of the bar in Oklahoma and Illinois and is licensed to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Locally, Doug serves on the Board of Directors of Oklahoma City's Film Row District, Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, Canterbury Voices, Creative Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma City Girls Art School.

A special thank to both the Edmond Conference Center and the Edmond CVB for Co-sponsoring this luncheon.
