The Ethical Dimensions of the Board's Duty of Foresight (This session is offered virtually only.)
Speaker: Jeff De Cagna, FRSA, FASAE

In the Turbulent Twenties, the duty of foresight is your board's highest responsibility. The duty of foresight is both the core belief that integrates stewardship, governing, and foresight, and the next practice that enables boards and their staff partners to understand, anticipate, and carefully examine the long-term human and ethical implications of today's decisions for stakeholders and successors. This thought-provoking session will challenge participants to understand the ethical dimensions of the board's duty of foresight and adopt a fresh perspective on how they can build new board capacity for future-focused and principled decision-making.

Life at Performance Level - This session sponsored by bfac.com.
Speaker: Curtis Zimmerman

This nationally-recognized keynote will transform your organization and inspire your people. The message centers around an empowering metaphor: Your life is a show, and you are the star. Inspired by Curtis’ 25 years in the entertainment industry, Living Life at Performance Level® is a performance in itself. Curtis provides an unforgettable learning experience by using interactive juggling, the world’s hardest game of “Simon Says” and fire eating to demonstrate these key concepts:

  • Be The Director – Create a life of relevance and accountability.
  • Write Your Script – Take risks, fail successfully and remove limitations by writing new scripts.
  • Define Your Character – Make character-driven decisions.
  • Cast Your Show Wisely – Choose positive influences and cut out the crazy-makers. Be a supporting character in others’ lives.
  • Be the Star of Your Life – Become a leader, take responsibility, embrace authenticity and create positive change.

The program was designed for all audiences to build cohesive, productive teams and lasting enthusiasm.

Success Signatures and You! - This session is sponsored by Doubletree Hotel at Warren Place
Speaker: Linda Clark, MHRM, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CDTLF

What’s a success signature, Linda? I’m so glad you asked.
A success signature is our personal definition of success. When all the smoke clears about what we think we should want, what we need, what others think we should do, what the neighbor down the street is doing, and what the proverbial Jones’ are up to…it’s about you. Work Life integration comes when we know what success looks like, for us. In fact, we can stop calling it work/life and get on about our active practice of living, in all of its glorious forms. Joy and Peace even during big challenges and falling on our face failures is about knowing how we define and embrace our vision of success.
Empathy and Self-Compassion show up when we’re clear on what a successful life embodies for us. Designing Intention Plans that are holistic, challenging, nurturing, and in the interest of supporting your vision. It’s a testament to courage and bravery when we get clear on our vision, prioritize our decisions around values, and keep our focus on a personal decision to live a best life of excellence, happiness, joy, success, and achievement. I’ll have a worksheet for you to help you gather your thoughts and ideas. We’ll talk about ways to open your exploration of your purpose, your success, and what fuels you at every level. I can’t wait to hear about your dreams
and ideas, your big goals, your goals that maybe you’ve not told a soul but are ready to get into your vision and on your horizon.

COVID-19 shocked the nation in March 2020. Its impact has been far reaching to affect every individual and every industry. However, no industry was hit harder than the hospitality/restaurant/meeting planning industry. At our conference in October 2020, our panelists gave us an insight into how the hospitality industry was decimated. We welcome our speakers back as they share their updates to where we are now and predictions for the hospitality industry in the future.

4:15-4:30 p.m.                Networking Break w/ Exhibitors
4:30-5:30 p.m.                Breakout Session

Breakout 1: Strategic Partners Meeting

Breakout 2: Developing a Foresightly Perspective to Learn with the Future - This session is sponsored by the Midwest City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Speaker: Jeff De Cagna, FRSA, FASAE

Association decision-makers and professionals don't need to be futurists, but they need to be better at learning with the future, which demands a "foresightly" perspective. As we have seen throughout 2020 and into 2021, a very different future is unfolding before our eyes, and all association contributors must take steps to prepare themselves for whatever comes next. This fast-paced session will explore the importance of foresight and share six ways of thinking and acting that association professionals can adopt to integrate the practice of foresight into both their personal and professional lives.
